This is the 6th post in the newly started series here on BRICKS-n-MORTAR, tag-labeled as -  "SNAPSHOTS". This series is being published here on this blog every Friday to start with. You may also send in some of your splendid photographs relating to our theme and may earn value points adding up to our ongoing BnM's blog promotion contest - 2010

Today's snapshots are from BRICKS-n-MORTAR 's own archives. We would love to receive your very own caption(s) for these snapshots in the comments section below and/or by email / 'contact us' form.

Interesting Round-About Designs on the Roads of Jeddah (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia)

About the snapshots :

Today's snapshots highlight how artistic and innovative one can get while planning, designing and executing as humble a road feature as the round-abouts at road intersections that each one of us encounter at the road intersections.

Of course, one can extend a statement that cash or mineral rich nations can afford to have larger-than-life things which other nations cannot. But, don't we all know that its only a limp excuse to make.

All it actually requires is a will to do something awesome, and an efficient and willing management/ authority. Such designs and architectural features provide an aesthetic and larger-than-life civil engineering based entities that not only are a pleasure to watch, but also do their basic job-- MANAGE TRAFFIC AT INTERSECTIONS.

Note:- BRICKS-n-MORTAR recommends its readers to have a look at informative and meaningful article on round-abouts / road intersection designs at roundabouts.net, which the BnM's Edesk came across while surfing the net for more information on road intersection designs. A must read, we must say!

Happened to land on and surf an interesting tech blog- Digital Urban (through NetworkedBlogs application of facebook) that has some interesting stuff on architectural modeling, visualization, etc.

Sharing one of the posts from their blog that's quite interesting, and which entails a video that "uses stop motion video animation to physically manipulate aerial still images of the city (both real and fictional), creating a landscape in constant motion".

[Construction]: Who could have constructed this marvellous staircase?

Received this picture from one Ms. Sonia today in our mailbox as a shared contribution (thanks very much, Sonia!)

And, just see what this constructed stair has unusual about it.

For the initial few seconds, the entire team of ours could not understand as what wrong was there in the picture. But then the very next second, upon a second glance, the goof-up done by the one who constructed this got upon us. And, believe us, no one could stop laughing.

[Readers'-Contributions]: A Wonderful Lord Ganesha Drawing in AutoCAD

Tuesday, July 22, 2008 ||| POST TAGS ==> , ,

[This post has been contributed by Ms. Annapurna Lakshmi, a dedicated reader of bricks-n-mortar.com]

"We all have been making drawings in various drawing softwares, the AutoCAD being the most popular of them all. Day in and day out, we produce thousands of layouts, plans, sections, etc. etc. of buildings, industrial units, highways, landscapes, and what not. But it was so very fascinating to see someone taking so much pains in creating a drawing replicating one of the most respected and loved Hindu mythological God- 'Lord Ganesha'.

The drawing is so intricately done that it must have called for investment of enormous time, patience, dedication and perseverance on account of that person who has made it. Hats of to him / her!

The email, which is doing rounds over the internet, is aptly having the punch line...
"Art without engineering is dreaming; Engineering without art is mere calculating"
