What does World Heritage Day Today Signifies To Us?

Its World Heritage Day today the primary purpose of which is to celebrate the uniqueness & importance of world's built cultural heritage.

It was on 18 April 1983 when #UNESCO initiated observing the day as International Day for Monuments and Sites. It aims to raise public awareness about the diversity and vulnerability of the world's built monuments and heritage sites and the efforts required to protect and conserve them.

The year 2016's theme for the International Day on Monuments and Sites is-- "The Heritage of Sport"

Dedicating today, 18th April 2016, to the heritage of sports has the purpose of celebrating the role of sports in the improvement of human life through the recognition and enhancement of specific types of monuments and sites; raising awareness on their values and the role they hold in shaping the cultural identity of concerned communities, at national, regional or local levels.

In general, a World Heritage Site is a place (such as a building, city, complex, desert, forest, island, lake, monument, or mountain) that is listed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as being of special cultural or physical significance (as defind by Wikipdia).

So, on this day today, lets all pledge and make a stronger resolve as a society, that we shall work towards protecting and preserving the heritage structures that we know about. It shall be helpful for us as well as our future generations to cherish and learn from.
